Potential CUPE Strike Action Inforfmation Update

Good morning Eagles
As you may be aware, contract negotiations between the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Ontario (CUPE) and the Ontario government have yet to produce an agreement.

While we encourage both sides to come to a fair agreement, we do understand that the breakdown in talks could lead to a strike by CUPE as early as Friday, November 4.

As a result, the school board is currently planning for a switch to remote learning for our students, should that become necessary.

We are currently identifying students who do not have home access to the necessary technology and would therefore require a device provided by the school.

Please complete this quick survey (https://lf.wcdsb.ca/forms/APC052-05F) to help us prepare for distribution of devices to families who require this assistance.

Please complete this form by as soon as possible, but no later than Wednesday, November 2nd at the end of the day.  Please only complete this form if you are in need of a Chromebook for your children, should we make a switch to remote learning.

Thank you in advance for your patience as we work to ensure our students have the resources they need to continue learning during this uncertain time.

St. Elizabeth Battery Recycling Challenge

At St. Elizabeth School we are excited to once again be participating in the Ontario Schools Battery Recycling Challenge, from October 20222 to May 2023.  Attached is a letter that provides additional details on the Challenge and how you can contribute to reducing our carbon footprint as a family.

With Daylight Savings Time happening next weekend, this is a prime opportunity to collect those used batteries from your smoke detectors and send them to school with your child for recycling.  Our goal is to collect 1.36 kilograms worth of batteries per student and staff member, which is what the average household has lying around.  With that said, it’s very possible for our school to meet our pledge by simply recycling all the batteries from within our school community.

Thank you once again for your support of our recycling initiative.

Pumpkins for a Cause!

Please see the message below from Anishnabeg Outreach:

If you, your friends, co-workers or family are looking for a fall activity in the city this weekend, please consider coming to our fall carnival at Anishnabeg Outreach this Saturday. We will have a family fire area and fun and games for families.

We will also have a couple thousand charity pumpkins available for any family who needs a pumpkin. We grew these pumpkins in our reconciliation garden this summer and proceeds from the charity pumpkins will be used to help fund a new refrigerator truck for our spirit bundle delivery program.

Tuesday, October 18, 2022 is Early Childhood Educators Day

The Administrators of the Waterloo Catholic District School Board would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all our Early Childhood Educators today on “National Early Childhood Educators Day”.  It is often said that “It takes a big heart to work with a small child.”  We are so thankful for your efforts with our youngest learners.  Our students in Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten learn and grow so much, thanks to your efforts with them, day-in and day-out.  Your endless patience, kindness and enthusiasm with our youngest learners helps to create an environment that they want to be in, that their parents trust, and that builds the foundation for a wonderful educational experience for years to come.  Today, the administrators from the Waterloo Catholic District School Board would like to say a huge THANK YOU to all of you!

Strong Start Volunteer Opportunity at St. Elizabeth School Cambridge

Strong Start Volunteer Opportunity at St. Elizabeth

Make a difference in the life of a 5-7 year old student at St. Elizabeth School by volunteering to be a Strong Start Coach. The Letters, Sounds and Words™ program is a fun and engaging way for community members to be involved in helping young children learn to read. The program was designed specifically to engage volunteers with little to no previous experience working with children. The required training, prescriptive program manuals, and enjoyable activities make it easy for anyone volunteer. Coach students through games which teach them letters, sounds and words. Before volunteering, please consider: The minimum time commitment for a volunteer is 30 minutes, once a week, for a 10-week period. Volunteers must be able to volunteer during the regular school day.  Volunteers must complete two, 2-hour training sessions prior to volunteering in a school. Training available throughout the Fall and volunteers can start in January. For more information please email Michelle.scott@wcdsb.ca
