Important Update on CUPE Strike

Earlier this evening, the Ontario government and education workers represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees – Ontario – (CUPE) reached a tentative contract agreement.

As a result, all WCDSB sites and programs will be operating tomorrow on their regular schedules.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through this time of uncertainty.

November 17, 2022 Chromebook Deployment

Dear Parents and Guardians
On Wednesday, November 16th, CUPE served five days’ notice that if no contract is reached, their workers would be on strike effective Monday, November 21, 2022.

CUPE and the government have negotiation dates scheduled up to and including Sunday November 20, 2022.  It is our hope that a deal will be reached before Monday’s strike date and kids can come to school as normal.

If a strike occurs, and schools are closed to in-person attendance, we will move directly to synchronous remote learning on Monday.

In anticipation of this potential strike action, today we will be sending home the Chromebooks with your children that were signed out previously to students for their use during remote learning.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to ensure the learning of all students keeps moving forward.

We will keep you updated as further information becomes available.

Save the Date! Parent-Teacher Conferences Thursday, November 24 (4-8:30 pm)

Dear Parents/Guardians

Please save the date for parent-teacher conferences. A form is coming home with your child for you to indicate the time you prefer to meet with the teacher. Please return the form by November 15th. Confirmation of the time of your conference will be enclosed in the oldest/only child’s Progress Report Card Package on November 21st.

We look forward to sharing your children’s accomplishments!

Returning Chromebooks on Tuesday, November 8th

Good afternoon Eagles

As we return to in-person learning on Tuesday, November 8th, we will want to have Chromebooks available for students to use in the classroom. Please return any devices tomorrow that were signed out over the last several days  – bring them back to your classrooms, not to the library.

Thank you , and we look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow~

Reminder – Parent Information Night at St. Mary of the Visitation for Confirmation -Wednesday, Nov. 23rd at 7:00 pm

Dear Parents/Guardians,
On behalf of the Parish Community of St. Mary of the Visitation, it is my pleasure to invite you to prepare your child for the Sacrament of Confirmation. At Confirmation we celebrate the gift of the Holy Spirit who comes to strengthen us as disciples of Jesus.
There will be a parent information meeting on Wednesday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the church. We ask that you complete the online registration for your son/daughter prior to this meeting. Please go to our parish website: www.stmaryhespeler.ca/confirmation-registration and complete the online form. You will be required to provide a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate if they were not baptized at St. Mary of the Visitation Parish. You may submit this copy electronically or bring a copy to the parent meeting. The link is found in the attached letter. Confirmation Parent Letter October 2022
In preparation for the sacrament, our young people will follow the curriculum that they receive in school. I will also visit the students in their classrooms. As parents and caregivers, you also have a very important responsibility in preparing your children for the reception of the sacrament.
Confirmation will be celebrated in April 2023. Dates and times will be provided at the parent meeting. There will be a $20 fee to cover the cost of the Confirmation gowns. Please bring cash or cheque (payable to St. Mary of the Visitation Parish) to the parent meeting. You may also pay by credit card on our website: https://www.stmaryhespeler.ca/donate. Please indicate that it is a gown payment in the comments box. Also include the name of your son/daughter. Additional information and updates will be communicated to the schools and sent to the email provided in the registration form.
Yours in Christ,
Father Ed Henhoeffer
