Waste Reduction Week, January 29th-February 2

ECO Team News: Waste Reduction Week January 29th-February 2

This week is the St. Elizabeth Waste Reduction Week and the ECO Team is ready!

It’s our school’s New Years resolution to reduce the amount of waste that we consume. In our team’s bid to repurpose goods we are asking all families to send any gently used clothing during this week. We will donate these items to Hope’s Closet so that others may be comfortable during the colder months.

Our school has also pledged to reduce the amount of garbage in our lunch. On Friday February 2nd, we are holding a school wide litterless lunch. Here are some tips to ensure lunches are litter-free for Friday and going forward.

WASTE-FREE LUNCH TIPS

-Pack lunches with healthy foods to minimize the packaging used in processed food

-Only pack as much food as your child will eat

-Use a reusable lunch bag/box and refillable bottle for drinks

-If you choose to use a single-serving container, please make sure it is recyclable

-Put sandwiches, muffins, etc. in reusable containers, instead of plastic bags

Thank-you for your support of the ECO Team’s initiatives.

School Climate Survey for Families and MDI Survey for Students (grades 4-8)

Dear Parents/Guardians of grades 4- 8 students…

For Families: We will administer a school climate survey for Families between February 15th and March 8th. You will be provided with the link to participate on February 15th.

For Students: We will invite students in grades 4 through grade 12 to participate in the Middle Years Development Instrument (MDI) between February 15th and March 8th. The MDI is an anonymous and voluntary online survey and will take place during class time on a board provided device with their classroom teacher. The MDI survey asks students about their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in school and in the community related to five areas of development that are strongly linked to well-being, health, and academic achievement: Physical Health & Well-Being, Connectedness, Social & Emotional Development, School Experiences, and Use of After-School Time. Additionally, students will be asked demographic questions on the survey (e.g., Adults they live with, Number of siblings, Gender, School, Grade, Indigenous identity, Race, First language, and English proficiency) in accordance with the Anti-Racism Act.

Please click on the link to find out more about the MDI survey that students will participate in next month.

Thank you from Your Friends at St. Vincent de Paul Society

Dear St. Elizabeth School Community,

Thank you so much for your very generous donations during our Christmas Food Drive and Angel Tree Campaign. Your gifts of food filled our empty pantry shelves and will help us to give groceries to approximately 50 families. And your amazing support of the Angel Tree made Christmas so happy for the families in our community that we support.

St. Elizabeth is a very kind and caring community, and we could not do our work without your help.

With our thanks,

Your Friends at St. Vincent de Paul Society
