Please read the attached message from Loretta Notten, our Director of Education, regarding the Government of Ontario announcement today.
Dear Eagles parents
With only two more days to go before our Christmas break, the staff of St. Elizabeth would like to wish you and your families a happy, healthy, and peaceful Christmas. Despite the restrictions, we hope that your homes will be full of joy and laughter. This has been a tough time, and the students have risen to the occasion, adhering to the COVID prevention protocols and working hard. They have certainly earned this break!
Students are reminded to bring home everything they need (shoes, boots, gloves, snowsuits, glasses, etc.) when they go home for the Christmas break.
Attached is a Christmas letter from Loretta Notten, our Director of Education.
Mrs. Goossens and the St. Elizabeth staff.
Excitement is building at St. Elizabeth School as we head towards Christmas. Today we had a fantastic response to our Whoville wacky hair/hat day. We have three more theme days:
Wednesday – Say goodbye to 2020 with our Christmas at St. Elizabeth theme. Wear silver, gold, and whatever you would wear to see this year out and welcome in 2021.
Thursday – Wear your Christmas sweaters, socks…all things Christmas!
Friday – Spend a cosy day in you favourite Christmas PJs.
Please remember that masks are still obligatory. Binging an extra one each day to change is strongly recommended.
We ask you please to continue to avoid sending in fast-food lunches.
Our food drive has been a huge success and we have had 1865 items donated! Students have built their “trees” out of the donated items and will be decorating them , so watch out for the photos!
We will finish the week with our fourth and final Advent virtual liturgy on Friday morning.
Parents and Guardians with a student in SK are invited to register for the French Immersion program in Grade 1. The registration lottery opens online on January 4th. Watch the parent information video at https://www.wcdsb.ca/programs-and-services/fsl/ If you still have questions after watching the video, join us for a virtual Q&A on Dec 10 or Jan 11. Meeting links will be posted on the FSL page of our Board website.
Tomorrow is the last day for donations to our Christmas Food Drive. Thank you all for your generosity!
Please read the attached letter from the Parish. So far the Parish has only had 43 registrants from all three schools, and would like to complete this process before the Christmas holiday.
- Due to the current weather conditions ALL SCHOOL BUSES, TAXIS AND SPECIAL EDUCATION ROUTES operated by the Waterloo Catholic District School Board and Waterloo Region District School Board are cancelled.
- All WCDSB and WRDSB schools and sites are CLOSED and it will be a Remote Learning Day.
- Students should visit their respective virtual classrooms or WCDSB and WRDSB Learning @ Home for resources.
- All Extended Day Childcare Programs are CLOSED.
- All programs and services offered by St. Louis Continuing Education and Adult and Learning Centre are cancelled.
Students will be provided with asynchronous student work by 10 am, as each classroom teacher has a Google Classroom or D2L site. Normal bell times will be followed to allow students to contact their teacher through the LMS or email.
Previously, when buses were cancelled but the roads were still passable, schools remained open. This will no longer be the case. New this year, when buses are cancelled, schools will be closed and students will have a remote learning day. Teachers will post work on Google Classroom by 10:00 am and students will work in their own time throughout the day. This will keep everyone safe and allow all students access to learning.
Bus cancellations and school closures are announced on local media and you are encouraged to check https://www.wcdsb.ca/delays-cancellations/
We will also send out announcements via Twitter and Newswire.
There a fewer students than expected registered for Confirmation. Online registration with the Parish will be disabled in the next day or so. Parents will have to contact the Parish directly if they missed the registration period. Please contact the Parish urgently if you missed the opportunity and wish to register your child.
Further information and resources will be provided following Christmas, including Confirmation dates for May 2021.
